At our July meeting, Lisa Collins, a guest, had this to say about our speaker.

“The July workshop was awesome! Joshua Covey covered 3 topics, Mixed Martial Arts, College Cheerleading, and Nursing. For me the best part was the way Josh was able to tailor his talks for the type of writing that the attendees are pursuing. I write fantasy and Josh talked about how to incorporate different fighting …styles and how a practitioner would react in certain situations. He also covered battlefield triage and how to set up realistic emergency medical situations. I hope that Josh will be able to come back in the future and share more.”

Since many of our group are going to the ACFW conference, the workshop for September has been cancelled.If any are interested in meeting on the 18th, I still have us scheduled for the building. We could have a writer’s session. Just let me know.

The edit system she’s created is a wonderful, easy-to-use tool for a writer’s tool box. Since I’ve started using it, I’ve found not only words that need to be cut, but also how my manuscript is in line with what publishers want. — Sheila Covey

Our own Shannon Vannatter will hold a free workshop on Saturday,May 15, 2010, at the White County Regional Library’s Administration building. She currently has a three-book deal with Heartsong Presents book club. Book titles are White Roses, White Doves, and White Pearls.

The following is the planned schedule:

12 p.m.—Lunch. Bring a sack lunch and enjoy a time of fellowship together.
1:00 p.m.—Welcome & Announcements
1:15 p.m.—“Mom/Dad Writes” (Learn the key to finding a workable writing schedule)
2:00 p.m.—Questions & Answers

2:30 p.m.—“Cut the fluff” (Learn the integral ingredients needed for a great read)

March Workshop,2010 success!

March’s workshop with Linda Fulkerson was a great success! We had a diverse group of people from all over the state, and Cindy Hays from WIN-ACFW out of Tulsa, OK came to hear Linda.

Linda, with an attentive audience, presented an overview of various Social Medias. She offered many ways to market our writing craft using these tools. My favorite is her Blog, OnBloggingWell. It has an abundance of information to help us master the art of social networking. Far from being internet savvy, I definitely learned a lot!
